Celebrate Earth Day With Super Sema

Happy Earth Day! Every April 22, people around the world take action to help protect our environment. This year’s theme --"Restore Our Earth" -- is focused on restoring the world's ecosystems through natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking.

Educating kids about the environment helps to instill important awareness on the issues impacting our earth and equips them with small actions they can take in order to improve and sustain it. As little citizens of the world, and future leaders, it is important that kids are adequately equipped for the challenges they will face in the future. As parents and educators, we have a duty to ensure that our children are empowered with the knowledge and skills they need to inhabit and preserve the Earth.

Kids can learn to protect the earth in simple ways. To begin with, they can learn about the “3 R”: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle You can teach them that they can reduce the amount of electricity they use by switching off the lights in the house when they are not needed or to reuse shopping bags when going to the supermarket or recycle plastic bottles.

The Super Sema animated show on Youtube has 4 fun environment-themed episodes in which kids can learn about the ecological importance of trees, explore waste-to-energy technology, get inspired about upcycling, and learn to care and be mindful about the environment.!

Each episode also comes with a set of “Maker Cards” that have environment inspired activities. When kids are done watching the episodes, they can flex their creativity muscles with the activities in the special Earth Day Edition of the Super Sema Maker Cards. The weekly Maker Cards help spark kids’ imagination and explore their creativity (Creator Cards), develop STEAM skills (Technovation Cards), and become mindful leaders (Superhero Cards). In the special edition, the activities will teach your kids how they can help protect the earth.

A great example of a kid who is doing so much for our environment is Great Thumberg, a young environmental activist, who believes “You are never too small to make a difference.” Here is a powerful speech she gave at the UN climate assembly which will inspire you children even further to take action on Earth Day.
